Band Awards 2018

As 2018 draws to a close, it’s that time of year celebrate another fantastic 12 months for the band with its annual awards night.

Following the Crofton village carol concert at All Saints Church, the band had lovely meal at Syhiba Indian Restaurant in Wakefield.

As ever there awards voted for by the members of the band as well as two awards chosen by our conductor Dean Jones.

First up was the award for “Players Player of the Year”. While there were numerous players nominated for this prize, in the end it went to our Assistant Principal Cornet player, Rhys Keegan. While Rhys is key member of our front row cornet team, back in March he took a back seat and dusted of the Soprano Cornet for the Yorkshire Area contest. A fantastic performance by him and the rest of the band meant we came away with the winners trophy and qualified for the National Finals once more.

Next was the first award chosen by our Musical Director, the award for “Most Improved Player”. As the band progresses it becomes harder and harder to choose this award as everyone keeps improving year on year. This year the prize went to percussionist James Keith. James is one of the youngest players in the band and Dean noted that his complete dedication to the band and music as a whole in and out of the band is just one reason for him to receive the award this year.

The final prize as chosen by the rest of the band is “Bandsperson of the Year”. Again, there were lots of individuals up for the award however there was one clear winner this year, our Chairman and Baritone player Roger Hine. Roger is one of the key members of the band working behind the scenes and plays a big part in helping to run the Crofton Silver Bandits.

Last but not least is Deans final award for the “Player of the Year”. The lucky recipient this year was Andrew Clutton our Principal Cornet. Dean chose Andrew for his consistent performances throughout the year both on the contest and concert stage.

What another brilliant year it has been for the band. Victory at the Yorkshire Areas and qualification for the National Finals saw the band receive promotion to the First Section as of January 2019, the highest ranking the band has ever achieved in its long history.

Thank you to all our supporters, friends and family for the last 12 months and we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
